Bill Proposed to Ban ‘Porn’ on U.S. Military Bases
Posted on May 1st, 2008 by GenesisEditor under NewsRep. Paul Broun (R-GA) recently introduced a bill which amends a 1997 law that banned hardcore magazines to now also include the sale of “softcore pornographic magazines” on American military bases, stating: “Allowing sale of pornography on military bases has harmed military men and women by escalating the number of violent, sexual crimes, feeding a base addiction, eroding the family as the primary building block of society, and denigrating the moral standing of our troops both here and abroad.”
His proposed bill, which has 15 co-sponsors and has been referred to the House Armed Services Committee to be considered, would potentially close what are considered “existing loopholes” and would now define the term “pornography” to be considered sexually explicit if it “regularly features or gives prominence to nudity or sexual or excretory activities or organs in a lascivious way.” The bill specifically named Playboy and Penthouse magazines.
