News.com.au is reporting that a growing number of gynecologists in Australia are refusing to perform cosmetic surgeries to “rejuvenate” and customize vaginas due to the dangerous that have been linked to the procedures.

Leading female sexual health experts are claiming that these surgeries are leaving many women scarred and with infections. They are also seeing a rise in women claiming to have “altered sexual sensations” after electing to have these operations.

The story claims that many of these vaginal operations are labioplasty procedures, which are most times done to alter the external appearance of the vagina. Another common purpose of these procedures is to “narrow the vagina or ‘amplify’ the female G-spot.”

A statement issued by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists speaks out against these procedures, going as far as calling the operations “dangerous, expensive and unwarranted.”
The statement also affirms that– “The college is particularly concerned that such surgery may exploit vulnerable women.”

However, Daniel Fleming, the president of the Australian College of Cosmetic Surgery defended the procedures and challenged the findings of those who oppose the performing of such operations. Fleming said that the vast majority of those who have undergone these procedures have been “very happy” with the outcome.

“If there’s a problem (the gynecologists) need to submit the evidence so we can find out why it’s happening, Fleming said. And if any particular group of doctors is implicated in the alleged increased complication rate.

The estimated cost of these vaginal operations reportedly begins at $10,000.
