In a recent interview with Allure magazine, Kate Winslet confessed that she had to wear a pubic wig aka “merkin” for her Oscar-winning role in The Reader.

“It was anything but glamorous,” Winslet told Allure. “The film is set in the 50s, I couldn’t have just had a landing strip! I had to grow the hair down there. But because of years of waxing, as all of us girls know, it doesn’t come back quite the way it used to.

“They even made me a merkin – a wig – because they were so concerned that I might not be able to grow enough,” Winslet went on to say in her revealing interview.

But the hairstyle certainly didn’t put off her co-star, German youngster David Kross,18, during the sex scenes.
“He didn’t need much help,” said Winslet.
