FBI Investigates Wikipedia On Child-Porn Charges

An expose from World Net Daily on the posting of graphic nudity and other sexual images on Wikipedia has led to an FBI investigation into the renowned Internet information site. The investigation is centered on an image posted on Wikipedia of a naked pre-pubescent girl posing provocatively, and whether the posting of this image violates federal child-pornography laws.

The questionable photo is prominent on the album cover for the 1976 Virgin Killer LP by the German heavy metal band, Scorpions. The cover with the nude shot was banned upon its initial release in the United States, and RCA Records replaced the cover with a band photo.

The questionable photo was brought to light in World Net Daily’s report on adult material that is freely available to minors on Wikipedia along with a list of other images that included, “Images of mammary intercourse,” and “Large-scale photos of men performing oral sex on one another (and performing oral sex on themselves).”

When World Net Daily asked Wikipedia to comment in their findings, Cary Bass, volunteer coordinator for Wikipedia, told WND, “There’s not really a definition of pornography. As for children’s access to the site,” he said, “If a child is looking at an article about a penis, he should expect to see a penis.”

Even as the FBI investigates whether Wikipedia is in violation of laws against the posting of images such as the Virgin Killer album cover, the photo in question remains available for view on the Wikipedia site.
