A proposed bill in California that would have seen a 20 percent tax on sales of adult products including DVDs and aspects of gentlemen’s clubs, was rejected by a legislative pane in Sacramento.

Also known as Assembly Bill 847, the tax proposal was sponsored by state Assemblywoman Mary Salas, (D-San Diego) and would have the funds distributed to area law enforcement agencies to “help” them cope with secondary effects perceived to be associated with adult entertainment.

The bill was rejected by a 5-4 vote. “At this point, we’re not sure if the bill will be resurrected,” a spokesperson for the Assemblywoman stated.
