If you’re taking a girl home to meet your mother, the last person she wants to meet is a porn star. Porn stars have a terrible reputation for being sad, abused girls with low self-esteem, drug and alcohol problems, and an insatiable appetite for doing the deed. The truth, however, is a lot more complicated.

7. Lisa Ann

This adult actress is a hard worker, savvy, a shrewd businesswoman, and someone who is goal-centric. These are all great qualities for a woman you’d want your mother to meet. Ann makes every girl she signs to her talent agency write a mission statement for their career.

6. Stormy Daniels

What mother in their right mind couldn’t love this 21st century suffragette? 5. Savanna Samson

Not only is Savannah a good Catholic girl, she is also an internationally accomplished winemaker. In 2004 she launched her own wine label to favorable reviews. The New York Times rated a bottle of her vintage Italian red wine Sogno Uno (which translates to “Dream One”) a 90–91 out of 100. Wine expert Robert M. Parker said, “It’s a very fine wine — awfully good. It was really opulent and luscious and it had a personality.” Samson has long been a fan of wine and took her entry into the world of winemaking very seriously.  “People have to be laughing when they hear about it,” she said. “But I didn’t want it to be a joke.” A nice religious girl who makes a mean batch of Jesus juice — what mother couldn’t love someone like that?

4. Sunny Leone

In 2004 Leone got political and showed her activist side by being part of the “No More Bush Girls.” She, along with seven other porn stars, shaved their “downstairs locks” to protest the reelection of George W. Bush. A spokesperson for the cause said, “We want to use our bodies to speak our minds to get rid of Bush. Sometimes your voice doesn’t get enough attention.” In 2008 Sunny recorded a PSA for Declare Yourself, an organization that urges young Americans to participate in democracy and vote.

Sunny also keeps up with her religious faith, even though she works in porn. She does her best to “maintain a link to Sikh traditions,” even though Sikhs frown upon pornography. Leone says, “Girls will leave the industry claiming that they found God. Well, the fact is, God has always been with them the entire time.” Leone is a smart girl, with a good head on her shoulders who will light up the room when she meets your mom.

3. Sasha Grey

Sasha thinks of herself as a pioneer and has been dubbed the “intellectual porn star” because she loves to discuss existentialism and Jean-Luc Godard. She believes she’s a performance artist who wants to turn the porn industry on its head and change it from within, pushing the boundaries of porn and the idea of women as sexual objects. She sees herself as a feminist who can empower women by doing porn. She recently told the LA Times, “All women have the right to be feminist whether you’re pro-porn or anti-porn. Sasha has only been in the industry a few years and already she’s crossed over to the mainstream media. She regularly models for companies like American Apparel, has recorded an album of industrial music, and recently starred in The Girlfriend Experience, a film by Academy Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh. She is also writing a graphic novel and working on a “sex philosophy” book.

Drake is a force to be reckoned with in the porn industry. She has won numerous AVN awards and has recently tried her hand at writing and directing. She is bound to charm your mother with her sweetness and down-to-earth nature.

Stoya grew up reading science fiction and fantasy books and was surrounded by technology. When she was six years old her father taught her DOS as her mother taught her how to read. Stoya, who is one of the few all-natural porn stars working today, also uses social networking websites to connect with fans and says that such sites greatly helped her career.
