Law Guaranteeing Sexual Pleasure For Women In Ecuador Is Rejected
Posted on June 23rd, 2008 by Genesis_DB under Interviews, NewsMaria Soledad Vela, an Ecuadorian politician believes that a woman has the right to fulfilling and satisfying sex; So much so, that she proposed that the right be written into her country’s constitution.
A report posted on Nationalpost.com tells the story of Ms. Vela’s crusade to have her right to sexual pleasure become officially mandated by law, and though the proposal was eventually rejected, the 45-year-old mother of two believes that she has made some headway in raising awareness in regard to the needs of women in her society,
“I think even if my proposal generated laughs and ridicule, some parts of society are rethinking what really is a healthy sexual relationship and sexual pleasure,” Vela was quoted as saying in the Nationalpost.com story.
Vela believes that women are forced into the role of being sexual objects in Ecuador’s male-dominated society. Her proposal to write a woman’s right to sexual gratification into law was also meant to help fight against sexual violence, even if that meant that a woman would then have the right to sue her husband.
The proposal did lead to Ms. Vela being ridiculed by some of her colleagues. According to the Nationalpost.com story, Leonardo Viteri, a gynecologist that opposed the Vela proposal was quoted as saying, “A woman can ask her gynecologist how to improve her sexual pleasure, but not the constitution.”
