AVN, the world’s foremost authority on the adult entertainment industry, today announced the launch of the 2009 AVN Erotic Film Festival.

The festival will run over a period of seven months and boasts cash prizes of $5,000 to be distributed among the top three filmmakers. All films must be under seven minutes in length and will be available online for open rating by viewers.

The top viewer-rated films will be then voted on by a panel of 20 expert judges from the adult and mainstream film industries. Besides a hefty cash prize, the first-place winner will also receive a production contract to direct a feature for a top adult film company.

“Nothing like this has ever been done before,” said Darren Roberts, CEO of AVN Media Network. “Erotic filmmaking and porn can be two entirely different things. The goal of this competition is to bring the focus back to the art of erotic filmmaking and to do so without depicting explicit sex. Just as some of the greatest Hollywood movies have no dialogue, great erotic films don’t have to be graphic.”

The Erotic Film Festival website at AVNFilmFest.com is now open for submissions, and will debut a large-scale national advertising campaign on Dec. 1.

I am in beautiful and humid Tampa, Florida for another exciting year of the NightMoves Adult Entertainment Awards and Caravan of the Stars.

This is my fifth year here, and for those who don’t know about this show which is in its 16th year of existence, let me fill you in. NightMoves Magazine is a regional publication that features the Tampa Bay area’s top gentlemen’s clubs, among other stuff. Every year at this time, they fly in some of the top names in adult — usually around 20 or so girls and guys — for their weekend of events. This includes appearances at some of the top clubs in the area each night and culminates in their awards show on Sunday night. It’s not a huge convention or even giant awards show, but Paul and Tracy Allen and the NightMoves staff do a great job in bringing a taste of adult to Florida’s Gulf Coast.

It’s a great opportunity for me to meet with some of the top stars and companies in adult without the crazed frenzy that is Vegas or L.A. We’ve made some great friends down here over the years who have contributed to the magazine, gotten some great interviews and sealed some deals. But you don’t care about that. What you care about is what the hell goes on down here, so here we go…

After the usual delay out of Newark airport, I finally arrived around 7pm last night and as I was walking to get my bags in Tampa, I ran into a group of friends who had just landed from L.A. It was great to see Lexi Lamour, Ethan Cage, Sunny Lane, Brooke Haven, Eli Cross, Kylie Ireland, Marcus London, Devon Lee, Derrick Pierce and Wicked contract star Kaylani Lei. Once at the hotel I also met up with GenesisOnline star blogger, the gorgeous Gianna Lynn, who had just gotten back from an appearance on “Bubba the Love Sponge.”

In the hotel’s meeting room, I got to see some other familiar faces and friends including Lisa Sparxxx, Jeff Sparxxx, Roxy DeVille, Morgan Dayne, Christy Wild and some others, but a great face to see was former Adam & Eve contract star, Austyn Moore, who informed me she’s back in adult and launching her own prodcution company. Austyn’s company will focus a ton on the Internet and we have already made plans for the blonde babe to shoot back in L.A. for GENESIS.

One of the faces missing from here who I knew was supposed to arrive yesterday was the one and only Tommy Gunn. When I ran into the group at the airport, they were waiting for Tommy to find them and the drivers. When they couldn’t find each other in what is a relatively small airport, the NightMoves staff started wondering why. The answer was simple. T-Gunn wasn’t in Tampa. He accidently arrived in Orlando, which thank god is only about an hour away. But how, you ask? It seems Tommy was supposed to change planes in New Mexico, but for one reason or another, and we’ll call it flight attendent error, Tommy didn’t, thus arriving in the Land of the Mouse. Of course everyone found this pretty humorous at first except for Tommy who decided to rent a car and take the drive over to Tampa. He finally arrived for the evening’s festivities and pretty much heard shit all night from everyone. He’s a great sport about it, and hopefully (for his sake and the sake of others before he snaps) it dies down in 5 or 10 years.

The opening night’s festivities featured all of us boarding a party bus and heading out to a release party for the Wicked Pictures release party for The Wicked at the Emperors Club here in Tampa. Stars of the movie including Kaylani, Pierce and Roxy signed autographs for fans and the rest of the girls were introduced to the club on the main stage. We had a few drinks, then boarded the bus back for our usual nightcap poolside until about three in the morning. It was good catching up on what’s going on with everyone and we’re all looking forward to the rest of the contingent arriving today, including Trina Michaels, Moxxie Maddron, Ron Jeremy, Sean Michaels, Delilah Strong, Paola Rey, Zoe Britton, Alexa Jordan, Nikki Rhodes, Tony Batman, Veronica Rayne, Bree Olson and more.

Look for more updates from the weekend’s festivities. I’m sure we’ll get some news, stories, and general bullshit. I know I’ll have an update on Stormy Daniels’ new Wicked Pictures sex comedy, Whack Job, which I might have a bit part in, so look here throughout. This week’s episode of the award-winning HBO hit series ‘Entourage’ had cameo appearances from Katie Morgan, Cassie Young and Digital Playground’s Shay Jordan.

The episode, “Tree Trippers,” debuted Sunday night and will be reairing on the various HBO channels throughout the week. Morgan plays herself in the episode riding in a convertible with Jordan and Young. They encounter the cast of the show who are on their way to the Joshua Tree desert in Eric Roberts’ RV in search of an answer. When they see Katie, who also hosts an HBO sex series, they call her out by name. The three girls flash the cast before speeding off.

Before becoming a card carrying member of the porn industry, I worked in the mainstream entertainment world for both the artists/production companies and the media. It was well known within that world that you had to make a mark to get noticed.

In the music biz, at least at that time, there were thousands of album releases a year. When I was an editor for music publications, I would get at least 20 or so CDs in the mail a day that were submitted for review. So which made it to the top of the heap? Well, of course we all knew we had to get that new Metallica or U2 album in as soon as possible since they were so high-profile. But then you had the rest of the music world who weren’t superstars trying to get the attention of folks like me and get their disc not only moved to the top of the pile, but also start the review off on a good note. One way a lot of these companies or bands would do this is by putting together some sort of kick ass press kit filled with related swag to the band or album title.

Here it is about 15 or so years later and I completely remember some of the bands who did this. Punk band NOFX released an album called Heavy Petting Zoo and decided to put an inflatable sheep in with their disc. Useful, well, no. Funny? Yes. The Ramones had custom mini bottle of tequila for Adios Amigos. That was useful if you chose to open it. I had packages from an indie metal band with a bong (bio organic natural growth system), I mean, “planter,” in it. A local band called Mars Needs Women included some vintage flying saucer toy and a ray gun to get themselves noticed and reviewed. There were special edition shirts, hats, etc.

So why am I boring you with stories of the music business and the good old days? Well, there are couple of porn companies who employ the same strategy to get their stuff noticed. Adam and Eve have done this in the past with releases such as Eden, Carolina Jones, Tailgunners and Lady Scarface. One company who consistently comes up with great promo packages is Wicked Pictures. The stuff for Operation Desert Stormy and Coming Home last year was way cool with spy glasses, ammo boxes, mirrors, and the obligatory shirts and hats. Now they have their two biggest releases of this year, The Wicked and Fallen, and have come up with their most innovative and coolest packages yet.

For Michael Raven’s film The Wicked, just releasing a really killer movie starring Kaylani Lei and Stormy Daniels was enough to get it noticed. But Wicked decided to spend a bunch of money in this lovely economy to make sure this movie got the credit it deserved. In the promo package for the movie was a blood-filled mousepad, beanie, T-shirt, candy, bag of blood and of course the movie itself. But the most impressive thing with this package is the full-color box it all came in.

The same promo box was used to promote Brad Armstrong’s 100th movie for Wicked, Fallen, starring jessica drake. The movie has been the subject of much hype. We previewed a trailer for it back in June at the F.A.M.E. Awards, and knew this was going to be a great movie. In this package was a candle with the box cover image on it, a lucky coin, embroidered hat, T-shirt, feathers, and the packaging for the movie itself is one of the best ever made in adult.

So for obviously BIG movies, why spend BIG bucks to make sure it gets reviewed. If I had to guess these promo boxes cost about $50 bucks each, and who knows what the actual boxes they came in cost. Times that by about the 300 or so they give out per movie, and you’re talking a lot of extra duckets on movies that had big budgets to produce. So why? Who better to answer than the BIG man over a Wicked, owner Steve Orenstein.

I called Steve and asked him who comes up with the concepts of their promo boxes for movies, and he told me it’s really a joint effort between their directors, art department, publicity and sales people and of course, himself.

“There are a lot of products out there and we want people to know — reviewers, buyers and customers — that there’s something special about these movies. That’s first and foremost,” Orenstein told me. In a cookie cutter day where gonzo and all-sex movies are cheaper and flooding the market, Wicked is one of the few companies who still produce primarilly feature films. Those cost lots more money, and spending extra money on things such as promo and packaging isn’t the popular choice in adult these days, but don’t tell Orenstein that.

“In this economy it’s probably not the way to do it. We spent more on trying to promote these movies than we have in the past. The boxes themselves probably cost more than the stuff in them, but we wanted to show the customers who think everything is created equal, isn’t.” And what about the unique box for Fallen? What if it doesn’t fit on some store shelves? Wicked is banking on retailers creating special displays for it, or end caps, or putting it on the top shelf where there’s more room. “The top shelf has no boundaries,” Orenstein says. “We’ve received more calls on these movies because of the promo from retailers and buyers, and even some of the other movie companies out there. Hey, I could have saved the money for retirement or spend it on giveaways… maybe I made the wrong choice,” Orenstein joked. We don’t think he did.

I’m somewhat excited to watch the ExliteXC fights that are on tonight. I’ll be amazed if the Shamrock/Kimbo fight is anything great. I think Gina Carano’s fight will probaby be one of the better ones on the card. The girls usually are in there to beat some bitch ass.

So I may have bad news for those of you awesome folks out there who were planning on going to the Oxnard Rhino to see me October 9-11th. Apparently the managers or higher whoever at the last club I danced at
(Blue Zebra ) brought up to my dance agent that I needed to lose weight  …..long story short i’m suspended from any Rhino clubs until then.

Good news is I had one of my friends (Christina) there taking pictures of me on stage at the BZ  so i was able to send them to my dance agent and if he disagrees with what was said then i’m no longer suspended. I’ll find out further info on sunday.

The Adam & Eve / Zero Tolerance co-production of Roller Dollz will continue to garner media attention this week, as two of the film’s stars – Courtney Cummz and Bree Olson [pictured] will be appearing at store signings in Colorado Springs and Denver. Never ones to play it “low key,” the young starlets will be arriving at both locations aboard the 40 Foot Roller Dollz Tour Bus.

Victory Tradeshow Management is proud to announce that EXXXOTICA NY show will go on as planned at a bigger and better venue, the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center located at the Raritan Center in Edison, NJ, this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 12-14.

EXXXOTICA NY, presented by HotMovies.com, has been making national and local headlines due to opposition for various reasons from officials in its original location in Secaucus, NJ. Rather than face a postponement or various rules set forth, the show’s organizers decided to dictate how the show would transpire and at great expense, moved the show to its new location at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center.

“Due to an issue with the liquor license at our previous venue, we wouldn’t have been able to present EXXXOTICA as it’s meant to be and as we planned it. We decided to take an aggressive approach to make sure that this show happened as scheduled for the fans, our vendors and the stars. We have secured a bigger and better location for this weekend’s EXXXOTICA NY show,” said J. Handy, Director of Victory Tradeshow Management. He also wants vendors to know that they are able to offer free WiFi throughout the convention hall, as well as advance rates on all electrical and audiovisual needs.

Handy added that they are currently exploring legal actions. “We 100 percent support the right to freedom of speech and expression, and we weren’t willing to back down on what we planned to do, so rather than produce a compromise that fit within their ideals of what is ‘lewd,’ ‘immoral’ or ‘obscene,’ we decided to move the event no matter what the cost and show the officials who opposed EXXXOTICA that the show will go on as it was intended to be presented. Ticket sales are currently exploding.” EXXXOTICA’s show hours will remain the same, with the sole exception of Sunday’s show hours being adjusted to 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Highlights of the show include EXXXOTICA’s massive “Fantasy Island” attraction (sponsored by Genesis Magazine) that will feature over 20 of the top adult film stars who will be on hand to meet and greet fans. Some of the stars scheduled to appear are Digital Playground contract stars Jesse Jane® and Stoya, Wicked Pictures contract star and director, Stormy Daniels®, Adam & Eve’s Bree Olson and Kayden Kross, as well as Vivid Girl Sunny Leone.
