We’ve been waiting for this one for a while, and what better movie to kick off doing some reviews on here than with probably one of the most anticipated adult movies of all time. Digital Playground pulls out all the stops in bringing us the sequel to the biggest-selling porn movie of all time. The second chapter in the continuing battle between Captain Reynolds (Evan Stone) and Emperor Stagnetti (Tommy Gunn) is a four-disc set featuring eight hours of swashbuckling adventure, countless DVD extras and the hottest names in porn engaging in some of the most intense sex ever captured for the screen.

What the first Pirates movie did was set a very high bar for narrative-driven porn movies. So one of the questions critics and fans had as chapter two was being produced was whether Stagnetti’s Revenge would sustain all of the dramatic and comedic prowess of the original. The answer to that questions is an emphatic– yes!

As a director, Joone puts viewers on the edge of their seats by keeping the action moving, and trimming each scene so as to build momentum leading towards the action-packed climax. Joone also wins major kudos in the area of cinematography, as the lighting and framing of each shot provides added layers and dimension to the overall scene.

Most importantly, there are some major acting performance in this movie that breathe life into the script and bring Joone’s vision to life. Belladonna has what it takes to be a legitimate big-screen action hero. She is more than up to the challenge of the physicality needed to make her character believable, and some of her dialogue exchanges are quite compelling. Katsuni has major screen presence that goes beyond those of a talented sex performer, and her intuitive abilities with facial expression and posture make her a formative big-screen villain. As the tough and sexy Jules Steel, Jesse Jane is the perfect foil for Evan Stone’s Reynolds character, and the two have a magic that works in both hardcore sex, and farcical comedy scenes. Still, the most underrated performer in this movie has to be to Steven St. Croix. As the emotionally-delicate pirate, Marco, St. Croix is hilariously over the top dealing with issues such as lust and fear of commitment while navigating the high seas.

Throw in some killer computer generated effects such as skeleton pirates and a giant water squid, and you’ve got yourself the recipe for a blockbuster!

Space prevents listing all of the sexual highlights of this movie here, but any review of this flick would be incomplete without mentioning the incredible lesbo liaison between Jesse Jane and Belladonna. One would be hard pressed to recall two women who have lit up the screen with the raw sexual tension and pure ferocity of these two legendary smut queens. Both ladies lick and finger each other’s twats and asses with a primal fervor, with each lady wrestling her way into the dominant role. By the time the session has ended, both star’s boxes and faces are drenched in spit and girlcum. I didn’t think it could top the scene from the first movie between Jesse and Janine, but it sure fuckin’ did!

Another standout screw stars Shay Jordan, who goes hog wild, filling her cunt and mouth with big, thick meat in a hellacious and sweaty threesome. Evan Stone’s shining moment comes in a fuckathon with Jesse Jane and Katsuni. The girls bring his dick to attention with their oral skills, and Stone pays them back with colossal balls-deep dicking.

Speaking of Katsuni and Stone, these two turn in amazing performances with their acting chops. Evan has great comedic timing and we have long been aware of his mainstream-worthy talents, but Katsuni was a complete surprise as to how good she is working with an actual script. Also to note are the great special effects, amazing performances by Jenna Haze, Sasha Grey and Ben English, and basically any sex scene in this movie can be described as great.

Included in the four-disc package are extended versions of the sex scenes, tons of cool behind the scenes shit and enough special features to keeping you stroking your plank until the next installment of this once in a lifetime XXX epic. Digital and Joone did the impossible and followed up the first one with a bigger, better blockbuster. ♥♥♥♥♥

While in Australia as a scheduled guest of the Sydney Sexpo, Belladonna offered advice to the Catholic Church on the matter of dealing with the sexual needs and desires of members of the clergy, according to a report on news.com.au.

Among her statements to the Australian press, the 27-year-old porn star advised Pope Benedict XVI to let priest watch porn. She believes that taking a more open approach to basic sexual urges would help cut down in sexual abuse cases, which is an issue that has plagued the church in recent years.

“The Pope has indicated he might apologize to victims of sexual abuse and that is a positive thing to do,” said Belladonna, “But unless he follows up with some practical advice that addresses the sexual needs and desires of clergy, the problem will simply continue. Church clergy are at a crisis because they get no real street-level sex education but are expected to ply the streets to deliver their spiritual message.”

To further assist in the cause, Belladonna has even offered to donate 300 of her own adult productions to the Catholic Church in Australia, so they could be distributed to priests. She has also offered to assist in creating and implementing a “meaningful set of exercises for priests to help them deal with sexual tension and stress.”

Even though yesterday was slated to be one of the shorter days of Erotica LA, it was definitely a long one. The show was crowded with fans, and there were lots of stars on hand to meet them. We were lucky enough to get there EARLY and set up the F.A.M.E. booth and have a little production meeting about the F.A.M.E. Awards. That’s set to happen tonight (Saturday) at 9pm with a Red Carpet at 7:30 that will have some surprise guests.

Yesterday I got to see a bunch of people I don’t get to spend time with that much because of our geographical differences, so that was cool. I only got bitched at 4 times by a star (names withheld) where she was placed on the Hot 100, and two stars who I hadn’t heard from yet were even nice enough to thank me (Alexis Amore and Moxxie Maddron) for including them.

The day was pretty uneventful with no major drama, fun stories or general meltdowns. Adam & Eve contract stars Bree Olson, Kayden Koss and Ava Rose, and the always-lovely Gianna Lynn signed at the F.A.M.E. booth for most of the evening. Thanks to Monstar, Leslie, Katy, Anh, Dusty and Danny for helping out over there. But generally speaking, it was the calm before the storm that will be today and tonight with F.A.M.E.

Yesterday was just a good day (despite the toe pain) seeing friends like Tera and Evan, Taylor Wane, Belladonna and Aiden, Karen Stagliano, Sasha Grey, Bree, Kayden and Ava, Gina Lynn and Travis, Joanna Angel, Jenna Haze and Jules, Stormy, Moz, Evan Stone, Ray and Nina Mercedez and lots of others I’m leaving out.

The highlight of the day was moderating our panel, “Everything you wanted to know about porn” which was definitely our most star-studded one yet. Holly Randall, Bree Olson, Sasha Grey, Penny Flame, Stormy, Tera, Evan Seinfeld and Evan Stone kept the crowd entertained for over an hour answering their questions, telling stories from the world of porn and all that comes with being porn stars (and great photographers). Pretty much everyone up there was not only informative and thoroughly professional, but it was great for anyone who is a fan of XXX to see how these people truly are and that’s intelligent, well-spoken, friendly and funny as fuck. Thanks to all of them for taking time at the end of a long day to do this. It was definitely great.

The 2008 F.A.M.E. (Fans Of Adult Media & Entertainment) Awards will take place on June 7 as part of the three-day Erotica LA Expo at the LA Convention Center. This year’s show will be hosted by Jesse Jane and Randy Spears. Spears, who won the F.A.M.E. Award for Favorite Male Star at last year’s show, is also a finalist for Favorite Male Star honors again in 2008, and Jesse is a finalist in the Favorite Female Starlet and Hottest Body categories.

What sets F.A.M.E. apart from other adult awards shows is that fans decide on the winner of every award, and even some of the categories. The F.A.M.E. voting process begins with pre- nominees in categories such as Favorite Female Rookie, Favorite Oral Starlet, and Dirtiest Girl In Porn. The top vote getters in each category become the finalists, and the slate is then wiped clean and the voting begins again to determine the winner.

Because the fans decide these awards, winning takes on a very special meaning. To win a F.A.M.E. Award means that a performer, product or company has established a true connection and relationship with their audience. To win a F.A.M.E. Award not only means validation on a personal level for a performer, but makes a statement to the rest of the industry that they are a viable and highly marketable entity in the adult entertainment world. Winning a F.A.M.E. Award can turn a star into a superstar, and many take approach it much like a political campaign to help make the fans aware that they are in the running for these honors.

What’s at stake at the F.A.M.E. Awards is not lost of those fortunate enough to be chosen as nominees. Jesse Jane won the Hottest Body Award last year, and knows first-hand what winning an award as voted on by porn fans means to her. “It is very special to win an award chosen by the fans,” Jesse said, “because these people buy your movies, and make you who you are. If it wasn’t for your fans you wouldn’t be anybody.”

Tera Patrick co-hosted the 2007 F.A.M.E. Awards and took home the trophy and a Tiffanys pearl necklace for Favorite Female Starlet. Tera is up for multiple awards again this year, including another nomination in the Favorite Female category. Ms. Patrick has her own take on the differences between F.A.M.E. and other adult awards shows.

“As great as it is to be honored by your peers in award shows like AVN, XRCO, and others, the true test of who is hot and who is not is the fans,” Tera explained. “I just love my fans and I thank them for their support. I will never turn my back on this industry, as it has made me who I am today, and helped me to have an amazing life. I know that I have won awards that I feel someone else may have been better suited to win, and definitely been passed over on lots of awards that I feel I deserved to win. The fans have their own opinions, and I guess the F.A.M.E. Awards can be looked at as the world’s sexiest popularity contest. When hundreds of thousands of people vote, you can’t mess with that!” Tera is referring to the 100,000 plus unique votes that were cast during last year’s awards, and this year is on pace to surpass that record-setting amount. “

Stormy Daniels won for Favorite Breasts in 2007 and 2006. This year she is up for three awards, including Favorite Director and her Wicked comedy epic, Operation Desert Stormy, is up for Favorite Feature Movie. She sees the F.A.M.E. Awards a true barometer of her success as an adult actress. “Fan voting is truly based on what the consumer likes most and wants to see. Winning a fan favorite award is the highest compliment.”

One need to look no further than the websites and other Internet forums to see just how seriously adult stars take these nominations. With F.A.M.E. Awards on the line, many in the industry embark on full-fledged campaigns to drive fans to the F.A.M.E. Awards website and vote for them.

Jenna Haze encourages fans to vote for her in her MySpace blog and her Yahoo fan group is dedicated to getting their favorite adult star the votes needed to win. Courtney Cummz took the 2007 award for Best Anal Starlet, and is a finalist in the same category this year. In an attempt to take back-to-back backdoor honors, Cummz has gone so far as to change the name of her MySpace page to, “Courtney Cummz Vote For Me In The Fame Awards.” Cummz also posted a video on YouTube.com urging her fans to go to the F.A.M.E. website and show their appreciation for her anal prowess.

Digital Playground created their own group on MySpace and Yahoo dedicated to getting votes for their eight nominations for DP contract stars and movies. They’re even doing a contest where the winner can get a phone call from one of their stars. Tommy Gunn’s page opens to a photo of Mr. Gun beneath the F.A.M.E. logo as he asks for your vote in the Favorite Male Star category. You can’t log on to a social networking site this time of the year without seeing bulletins, blogs or user names of stars where they are stumping for votes.

The Internet is a tool that Tera Patrick finds invaluable in her quest to take home the prize on June 7th. “I tell everyone wherever I go to vote for me at the F.A.M.E. Awards. Between my website, Terapatrick.com, and my social networking pages, press and PR teams, as well as our strategic partnerships, we reach a lot of people.”

Belladonna, who also received multiple nominations, has her own philosophy as well. “If anybody knows me, they know that I care about my fans. I would rather receive an award from people who actually buy my product over a panel of people who get paid to watch my movies any day. It’s very important for me to be a finalist because getting awards shows appreciation and it makes me feel grateful for all of the hard work I put into my productions. The only thing I do to help get my fans motivated to vote is to let them know about the voting. And I tell them to do what they think is deserved. I don’t tell them to vote for me in every category, I tell them to vote for the girl they really believe deserves that award.”

Jenna Haze agrees. “The fans are what make us stars! I wouldn’t be here without my amazing fans! So the fan awards are special in that way. Being a finalist in the FAME awards is important to me..I have three awards ceremonies that I am all about—F.A.M.E. for the fans, the XRCO awards (critics), and of course, the AVN awards (critics/fans/friends/industry).”

Aside from campaigning to win votes, adult stars know the best way to win over the fans is to continue making hot and nasty movies. And with keeping their fans satisfied at the top of all these star’s priority lists, we can all look forward to lots of great movies for years to come. So, I guess you could say that the true winners at the F.A.M.E. Awards are the fans themselves.

The Website and the DVD — Taking a Stand and Helping

I gave you the facts along with my diatribe yesterday in my post on the John Stagliano/Evil Angel obscenity case and ensuing indictments. If you’re anything like me, after hearing about all of this you’re hopefully asking yourself, “How can I help? What can I do to let my voice be heard? Is there anything I can do for my love of porn, and more important, my love of the right to free speech and expression?” Well there are some things you can obviously do, and here are some suggestions, as well as what Evil Angel is doing to help fight the power.

Evil Angel has started a not-for-profit organization called Defend Our Porn. They even have a website, DefendOurPorn.org (also visit their MySpace page). On this website, you can learn more about John’s case, as well as how you can help. Learn about your freedoms and what’s being done about taking them away from you.

John’s opening message on the site says it all. “America is great because the founders knew that the power of the majority had to be strictly limited to protect this wonderful concept of ‘rights.’ They knew that the rights of a minority, and especially the most important ‘minority,’ the individual, needed to be protected against the will of the majority. And the most important right that they sought to protect, the FIRST Amendment to the Constitution, is the right to free speech. That is the right to express oneself in whatever way one wished, as long as that person was not ‘forcing’ himself or his ideas on anyone else.”

In essence, no one is making anyone watch his movies. People choose to watch them because they want to for whatever reason. And if they’re watching them of their own free will, they obviously don’t find them “obscene.” By watching these movies you are expressing your preferences and exercising your right to free speech, just like he did when he made these for you.

When I spoke with Karen Stagliano, she told me that John has always fought and believed in protecting these freedoms, and not with just porn. He’s a strong believer in all of the arts. We’ve seen countless exhibits in reputable museums picketed and protested because someone out there thought they were obscene. He defends the right to see written works, paintings, and expressions of any kind.

On this site you can see what you can do, and most importantly to me, help aid in this case by raising funds and awareness. Any money, which is donated and not used towards the legal defense of the case, will be rolled over in the DefendOurPorn fund and will be earmarked for future First Amendment and obscenity prosecutions. DefendOurPorn.org contains news links about the case from numerous media outlets, a “Contact Your Congressperson” button, a PayPal page to make a donation to Stagliano’s legal fund and a guestbook.

Evil Angel will also be releasing a DVD on July 3, 2008 with proceeds going to the fund. Longtime Evil Angel director Christoph Clark suggested the DVD, and it will feature scenes donated by Evil Angel’s biggest directors, both past and present. It’s virtually a who’s who of adult. Directors and stars confirmed with scenes on the DVD as of now include: Manuel Ferrara, Tara White, Jazz Duro, Sandra Romain, John Leslie, Naomi, Jay Sin, Dana DeArmond, Holly Wellin, Belladonna, Harmony, Nikki Jayne, Jules Jordan, Christoph Clark, Cherry Jul, Nacho Vidal, Avy Scott, Joey Silvera, Sasha Grey, Rocco Siffredi, Kelly Stafford, John Stagliano, Melissa Lauren, Jonni Darkko and Annette Schwarz.

The DVD will also include a masturbation scene from Karen a/k/a Tricia Devereaux who returns to performing in a scene with Derrick Pierce. Karen told us how much she looked forward to doing this. “It’s a psychologically dominating scene that I’ve fantasized about and the thought of it turns me on. John offered to shoot camera, but I just want him to watch it with me. Jay and I are directing and it will be amazing.”

In addition to all of the directors donating their scenes, so have Evil Angel’s graphic artists, replicators and printers, and we’re sure more will step up with offers by the time the DVD is released.

What else can you do to help? We’ll give you the old standard, canned suggestion of writing. Start with your congressman and senator. Will this make a huge impact or change the face of history? Honestly, probably not. Even if Senator X or Congressman Z enjoys watching the occasional double penetration or squirting flick, he’s not going to admit it. So why write? It’s fun to put your thoughts on paper and let them all know that watching the occasional double penetration or squirting flick is fine and fun. It’s fast, cheap, easy and who wouldn’t want to talk about porn with an uptight official?

Also, send some letters to the editors of you local publications. Let them know what’s going on out there. Maybe they’ll print it and make you famous. If they do, it’ll get the word out there more, and that’s what we need. Like they say, there’s strength in numbers!

Karen adds, “It’s more about getting the word out. Not raising money. John would take this as far as it could go no matter what the cost or consequences, for the sole fact government is trying to censor what consenting adults watch. These are our freedoms and we have to protect them.”

About John Stagliano’s and Evil Angel’s Obscenity Indictments

I want to take a little time here from letting you know about something actually important to both the adult industry and people in general, and that’s the right to free speech.

It seems to me that not enough attention is being given to the current battle Evil Angel and John Stagliano are facing. That’s not to say that Sara Suckalot’s new big blowbang, the party that Mary Jane Rottencrotch is hosting or Julie Juggies big dance appearance isn’t important. Of course they are. But this is really, really important, and this is where my joking will end.

In case you haven’t heard, John Stagliano (a.k.a. Buttman) and his companies were charged with “three counts of using a facility of interstate commerce to sell and distribute DVDs containing obscene films together with a movie trailer; two counts of using a common carrier for the conveyance or delivery of DVDs containing obscene films in interstate commerce; one count of engaging in the business of selling or transferring an obscene film and a movie trailer in; one count of using an interactive computer service to display an obscene movie trailer in a manner available to a person under 18 years of age, and one count seeking forfeiture of certain assets of the defendants.” In layman’s terms, he made and sold porn movies a prosecutor thinks are obscene, showed a trailer of a Belladonna movie on the Internet that they think is obscene and that an irresponsible parent might not block from their teenager, and if found guilty, John should give up whatever assets that might have come as a result of the sale of this stuff, and a grand jury agreed with the prosecutor and indicted John. Now, if he’s convicted, John faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison on each of the obscenity counts (you do the math), plus another two years on one of the other counts. Oh yeah, and he faces a maximum penalty of $500,000 in fines for each of these counts.

When I first heard about this case, I did my “holy shit,” and right away thought about what the Staglianos must be going through. I was going to see Karen a week or so later at Exxxotica Miami and wondered what her frame of mind would be and if she even would come. She did come and she was her usual awesome self. Then I wondered if the adult industry’s personal watchdogs, the Free Speech Coalition, who have probably received hundreds of thousands or maybe even millions (you can ask) from those in the business, did anything to help. I have heard rumblings from those in the know, they have not and that’s a damn shame if it’s true.

Let me go back a bit and say that an indictment is merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent of the charges and it is the government’s burden to prove a defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial. John pled not guilty at his arraignment on April 21st in Washington, DC on all these counts. He was processed and released on his own recognizance and awaits a trial which some say may not happen until sometime in early 2009.

I spoke with Karen Stagliano at length yesterday and have had conversations with her regarding this case on several other occasions since this went down. Karen is not only John’s wife, but also the publicist at Evil Angel. Some of you might also know her as “former” performer Tricia Devereaux. I know her as one of the sweetest and most intelligent people in the industry.

Karen updated me on the case and told me that Evil Angel has seen the government’s discovery. On June 12, 2008, all four of their lawyers — Paul Cambria, H. Louis Sirkin, Allan Gelbard and D.C. counsel, Robert Corn-Revere — will be in Washington for a status hearing. John was given permission to be present by phone call only during the status hearing. He is intending to phone in from Los Angeles. John’s in good hands as three of his four attorneys have tried cases in the Supreme Court. At this time they will tell the judge their planned course of action and they will come up with an estimated time when they think this will go to trial.

John has no intentions of plea-bargaining, and once this trial begins, the judge would not be likely to grant acceptance of a plea. Stagliano, as do many of us, believes in a person’s right to free speech and expression. As Karen told me, “We make our movies for the people who want to watch them. If someone in Middle America doesn’t agree with what we do and doesn’t want to watch our movies, then they don’t have to. That’s totally their choice. But there should also be a choice to watch our movies if someone enjoys them.”

How is Stagliano dealing with all of this? Hey, if any of us were facing substantial prison time, the litany of fines, and a stack of legal bills like this, I know that I for one would be shitting the proverbial brick. Hell, I’d probably be shitting a whole quarry. With the possible criminal consequences aside, even if John wins there will still probably be millions of dollars in legal and related bills. Just to put it into some sort of form for you to understand, Evil Angel’s recent copyright infringement case against a Canadian company racked up legal bills around $1,000,000 dollars. There were two attorneys working that case, and this one has four. Feel free to do the math yourselves. Some estimate millions.

“John is in a very focused frame of mind,” Karen told me about his mental status. “He thinks it’s ridiculous the government would do this. He’s going to stand up for what he knows isn’t wrong. He’s not going to stop doing what he’s doing. We don’t think anything that we’ve done is morally wrong.”

There are tens of thousands of adult movies and scenes shot for DVDs and Internet sites each and every year. Are they all obscene? Who is to decide what is technically obscene? What a housewife from Atlanta might object to, another housewife in Atlanta might play for sexual stimulation for her and her husband. Are Evil Angel’s movies in question with this case that extreme? In our jobs here we see a plethora of movies and scenes daily. Sure, some are more “extreme” than others, but these are fairly tame comparatively speaking to a sea of adult material in the world.
Other companies and individuals in the mainstream adult business have faced somewhat similar accusations by the government — Seymore Butts, Rob Black, Max Hardcore, JM Productions are just a few of the more recent ones. Evil Angel are definitely the biggest of the bunch to be indicted, and in my humble opinion, this one really hits home because I know they are good people and have become to count Karen as a personal friend. Why were they chosen from such a large pool of prospected whipping posts? Maybe they got on the radar because of their high-profile copyright case, or maybe it’s just because they’re a whale in a sea of guppies. We love to do things bigger in this country.

We as consenting adults and fans of adult entertainment have to join John and stand up for our constitutional rights. It’s our right to choose what we want to watch, say, and purchase and enjoy in our personal lives. Tomorrow, I’ll bring you a second part to my diatribe on how you can help with not only this case, but also support the position that it is our freedom to choose what we want to want to watch.
