Wicked Pictures’ award-winning contract star Jessica Drake is about to set sail on a new venture within adult. She’s following in fellow contract superstar Stormy Daniels’ pretty little footsteps and stepping behind the camera to direct her first feature.
Her directorial debut will be the feature-length erotic vignette What Girls Like. The project will mark the first on-screen appearances as Wicked contract girls by the newly signed tandem of Alektra Blue and Mikayla Mendez. Drake says What Girls Like will give audiences “a front-row seat as we explore the sex lives of seven very beautiful, very different women.”
In addition to Alektra and Mikayla, What Girls Like will also feature Drake in a three-way sex scene. Other cast members confirmed at press time include Michelle McClaren, Brooke Belle, Jada Fire, Brad Armstrong, Randy Spears and Sammie Rhodes. What Girls Like is the first of four movies Drake will be directing this year, and she is slated to do another six in 2009.
We asked Jessica what made her decide to direct. She said, “I learned very early on that the more I had to do with a movie, the happier I was with it. I’ve been working closely with Brad (Armstrong) over the years as well, doing art direction, wardrobe, writing, being his assistant director. When I did Coming Home for him, I realized that I was really comfortable sitting behind the monitor calling the shots, making the decisions. He supported me and he’s always encouraged me to do anything I want to do. I just felt like this was the right time to begin. I’ll be directing and writing and performing as well. I have no plans to retire!”
While this movie is Jessica’s maiden effort as a solo director and she’s worked as an A.D. in the past, she has also written scripts for Wicked feature movies such as Dating 101, Love Always and Just Between Us. With all of this experience in front of the camera, we wanted to know what she has learned from watching those behind the camera at Wicked.
“Everyone that I’ve worked with has been very influential to me, even if they’ve taught me what I don’t want to do,” Jessica said about her learning experiences. “I think I’ve learned the most from Brad (of course)! I think he really takes a different approach to directing than a lot of others do. When he does a movie, he really does it all. He’s hands on until the very end.” But what about the other directors she has worked with or seen? Jessica continued, “I think that every director at Wicked has taught me something. They all have their strong points. I think that having made the transition from a performer to a writer to a director herself, Stormy has really paved the way.”
Stormy has paved the way for female directors in this industry who are also performers, and it has been an award-winning and profitable ride for Daniels and Wicked. So what does Drake look forward to in the future?
“I’m most looking forward to being able to do for Wicked as much as they’ve done for me, to emerge as a new director and perfect my very own style. And to keep on having the kind of sex I love while I do it, of course.”
