Assence Films, a “Best New Studio” nominee during the 2013 awards season has reached a milestone for their best selling series Anal Artists.

The original Anal Artists which featured one of Sasha Grey’s final scenes helped kick start Assence Films into an industry powerhouse. The controversial donation offer created a publicity firestorm covered by media outlets like TMZ and Huffington Post.

“Anal Artists has always been our number one selling series. These titles pack some of the hottest talent who exhibit raw sexual energy and we see consistent sales and reorders on this series” said Assence owner Mike Kulich.

The fifth installment of Anal Artists features a comeback from porn superstar Maya Hills. The feature also stars Luscious Lopez, Aliza, Chloe Morgan and Georgia. The DVD also includes a cum shot reel, a trailer reel, and a photo gallery.

Anal Artists 5 is slated to ship at the end of May.

Former adult film star Sasha Grey is making her fiction-writing debut with a new erotic novel titled The Juliette Society, according to a Deadline Hollywood report.

Grey, the 2010 winner of “XBIZ Crossover Star of the Year,” has signed a book deal with Grand Central Publishing in the U.S. and Little, Brown Book Group in the U.K.

The novel is being billed as “Fight Club” set in a highly sexualized world with an assertive female protagonist,” the story said.

Grey remarked, “For the very first time I can create my own world, my own characters, my own story, and express my own vision with publishers who are just as passionate about the subject matter as I am.

“I’m not interested in trying to reinvent the erotic novel, but I look forward to taking it back to its source as a salacious treatment of sex, particularly female sexuality, as something mysterious and sensual. Me sensual? Go figure!”

Since retiring from porn in 2009, Grey has starred in Steven Soderbergh’s, The Girlfriend Experience, graced the cover of Playboy, appeared on “Entourage,” published a book of photos, starred in an Eminem music video and landed various independent film roles, among other projects.

It seems everywhere you look former porn performers are trying to move on from their sexually exhibitionist careers, some successfully, others not so much. In the States, many people are aware of Sasha Grey’s relatively easy transition from bona fide porn star to respected actor, and others may be aware of the far more difficult career shift attempted by Stacie Halas, a middle school science teacher in Oxnard, California, who was just fired from her job because of her past as a part-time porn performer. But another actress, Sibel Kekilli, who is currently starring in HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones, also began her professional career working in front of the cameras in adult movies.

A German of Turkish descent, the 31-year-old Kekilli, who plays the prostitute, Shae, on Thrones, has already survived a public scandal that erupted in 2004 after a German tabloid outed the 23-year-old, who had just had her mainstream debut as the lead in a major mainstream hit, Head-On, for appearing in porn. The revelation led to her parents breaking off contact with her, but in terms of her career it was barely a blip on the radar. Kekilli has appeared in several movies since, and in 2010 won a Lola, Germany’s highest movie award, as “Best Actress” for her performance in Feo Aladag’s When We Leave.

2010 was the same year Kekilli was cast in Game of Thrones, first as a guest star and then, in the second season, as a permanent member of the cast. She also has a regular role in the long-running German/Austrian/Swiss crime series Tatort.

The internet being what it is, however, a quick Google search using Kekilli’s real name returns a number of results featuring the lithe, raven-haired beauty engaging in hardcore action back in the day. According to one account from 2004, the actress performed in nine adult films until autumn 2002 before she was spotted on the street by Head-On director Fatih Akin, who reportedly cast her for the film immediately.

Akin and others came to her defense, accusing the tabloid of “bigoted and disgusting” behavior, and explaining that Kekilli had told him of her past work but that the two had decided not to mention it in the hopes that no one would find out. In the end, the scandal went away as far as her career was concerned, but the impact on her parents, whom the actress characterized as modern but conservative, was far more disruptive.

“The disgrace is too great for the family,” Kekilli’s father said at the time. “Sibel moved to Hamburg two years ago. Apparently she worked in the city hall and now this news. I can never forgive her for it. I don’t want to ever see her again.”

Judging from more recent bios of the actress, it appears that she remains estranged from her family. A Yahoo! article last year noted Kekelli’s adult entertainment past, and wondered, in light of her newfound success on Game of Thrones, “But with Americans just now becoming aware of Kekilli’s sordid past, she may have to go through the ordeal of having her dirty laundry aired all over again.”

It would appear, however, that though the laundry remains digitally available, it’s no longer considered all that dirty.

Assence Films has announced its scheduled releases for May. They include Anal Artists #2, Pilot Seat and  Fuck-Book 4.

Anal Artists #2 set to ship May 9th. The original Anal Artists which was released in March was a huge success featuring one of the last anal scenes from now retired Sasha Grey. Retired porn star, Sasha Grey recently advocated her former roots when she starred in a XXX ad promoting equal pay for women for Belgium’s Equal Pay Day. According to statistics, there is a 22 percent age gap between men and women in the workforce, yet, in porn, it’s the women that make the most money. I Melt With You, the Magnolia Pictures indie-drama starring former porn queen Sasha Grey and Hollywood A-listers Jeremy Piven, Rob Lowe, Thomas Jane, Christian McKay and Carla Gugino, arrives on DVD and Blu-ray disc today.

Directed by Mark Pellington (Arlington Road) from a script by Glenn Porter, I Melt With You follows four male friends in their 40s as they get away to Big Sur to do drugs and cavort with loose women, bringing forth potentially dangerous consequences to each.

Grey plays Raven, a hardcore party girl who lures one of the friends into an otherworldly type of bisexual threesome.

The 23-year-old “thinking man’s porn star” told Maxim.com, “It was kind of a last-minute audition and they called me in, so I hadn’t even read the script yet. On the set I learned that it wasn’t a face-value character. She becomes a grim reaper, so that was something I learned on the spot.”

The University of California, Davis has issued a letter to Assence Films informing company owner Mike Kulich that the institute would be “delighted” to receive the rejected donation offer made earlier this month by the upstart studio to the National Education Association in the name of Sasha Grey.

Dr. Darrell Y. Hamamoto, professor and director for the University’s Popular Culture Institute, wrote, “While a much smaller education entity when compared to the super-lobby impact of the NEA, the Popular Culture Institute at the University of California, Davis would be delighted to receive a modest grant from Mr. Mike Kulich of Assence Films in support of ’sexually-positive media culture.’”

Assence Films’ offer to donate part of the proceeds from sales of its gonzo title “Anal Artists,” starring Grey, to the NEA’s “Read Across America” campaign was made on the heels of an NEA publicity scandal that found Grey, one of the adult industry’s most hardcore performers who is now retired, reading to students at Compton, Calif. elementary school.

“In receiving Mr. Hamamoto’s letter, I was truly humbled in what he had to say regarding our donation offer,” Kulich told XBIZ. “After reading a little bit about him, I was extremely impressed by his views on the desexualization of the Asian-American male in the media and his alternative approach to education by producing adult movies as research.”

In 2003, Dr. Hamamoto produced a 50-minute adult film titled “Skin On Skin” with an all-Asian cast to promote the sexual empowerment of Asian people.

Kulich said he will take the donation offer refused by the NEA and give it instead to the Popular Culture Institute at the UC Davis. “Absolutely. We will,” Kulich said. “I’ve called Dr. Hamamoto and am awaiting his call.”

Considering the sales boost Anal Artists has received from the national exposure this story has generated, that donation could be quite considerable.

Assence Films announced on Thursday that “Fuck-book” has filed the necessary paperwork to make its Initial Public Offering to adult film fans everywhere on Wednesday, February 22.

“The Fuck-book Diaries” features more than 90 minutes of POV action with performers Ashley Jordan, Amber Rayne and “a full friends list of hometown hotties.”

“The Fuck-book Diaries” is the second release by new production company Assence Films, which was in the center of controversy last week following the release of Anal Artists starring Sasha Grey.

Anal Artists generated widespread media buzz when the National Education Association (NEA) refused to accept a donation of a percentage of the proceeds from the film. Assence Films is exclusively distributed by Exile Distribution.

On Monday, The National Education Association said they will not accept any donations give to them for the “Read Across America” program by porn star, Sasha Grey, from the money she’s made from her latest release, Assence Films’, Anal Artists.

Even though Grey retired from porn last April, an anal scene she filmed while still in the industry is shown in Anal Artists, with the production company seeking to donate the proceeds to “Read Across America.”

“Sasha Grey is not affiliated with the National Education Association’s Read Across America program nor has she been invited or endorsed by NEA to read at any of the association’s Read Across America Day events, and NEA will not accept any proceeds from her latest, or any of her films,” the NEA said in a statement on Monday.

In November of 2011, Grey made news headlines when she read to first and third graders at Emerson Elementary School in Compton California. In her defense, Grey stated that the school should have researched her film past and if the school or parents had a problem with her reading, she would have understood. However, the “Read Across America” program is something that is near and dear to her heart.

“Promoting education is an effort that is close to my heart. Illiteracy contributes to poverty; encouraging children to pick up a book is fundamental,” Grey wrote on November 11, 2011, adding: “I committed to this program with the understanding that people who have their own opinions about what I have done, who I am and what I represent. … I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am.”

Howard Levine of Exile Distribution, the production company responsible for releasing Anal Artists, said that the NEA’s decision for not accepting donations from Grey based on her previous background is discriminatory, stating, “Anyone that’s supporting reading and helping kids and donating money to their cause should be accepted. I don’t understand why they would not accept that — only the fact she was in adult films,” Levine said. “I understand their position — they don’t want to be associated with any adult film stars. I think that everybody has a slanted opinion on what the adult film community is so I know that they’re trying to be politically correct.”

Since her departure from the adult entertainment industry last year—Sasha Grey has been cast in a slew of mainstream films and shows, which included a continuous version of herself in HBO’s, “Entourage.” While now, she can add “Horror Movie Starlet” to her growing resume.

Grey has been cast as a character in director, David Guy Leavy’s thriller titled, Would You Rather?, which also stars: Brittany Snow (Hairspray, Prom Night), Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator), and John Heard (Home Alone). The indie film focuses on Snow’s character, Iris, whom helps Raleigh, her Leukemia stricken brother. As the bills pile up, and the cancer treatment becomes expensive—Iris finds herself jobless and desperate to save her brother’s life, but her life changes when a doctor tells her to meet with Shepard Lambrick, played by Combs, who is said to be a miracle worker of sorts.

As it turns out, Combs agrees to help Iris if she participates in a sickening version of the childhood game “Would You Rather?” Which forces contestants to make life threatening decisions in split seconds. If she wins, Lubrick promises to find a donor for Iris’s brother, and will pay for his treatment. Reportedly, Grey portrays another one of Lubrick’s contestants.

Production on the film began this week, however, the release date has not been set.
